On the drive back home from a quick trip to Montreal I decided to pay a visit to our friend Germain (Jimmy) Cornet, Alfa Romeo specialist at Des Sources Alfa Romeo in Dollard-des-Ormeaux.
Although we had gotten a quick preview during the ALFA expo 17 convention last summer, I had not returned to the dealership since its official opening in September 2017.
Wow, what a sight! The showroom that was empty on my last visit was now filled with beautiful new Alfas. A few 4C, both Coupe and Spiders, the Giulia in both TI and QV edition as well as the all new Stelvio.
Germain started off by giving me the grand tour. The waiting area has an espresso machine with biscottis, chocolates and panettone available for customers while they wait for their cars to get serviced. We then proceeded to the absolutely spotless garage where a few cars were being serviced, prepped and detailed.
From there we made our way to the rear parking lot where all the new cars are stored. Which colour do you want your Giulia? A wide range of colours and trim packages were right there in stock alongside several Stelvios.
All this excitement was making me hungry. We then headed for lunch at a nearby Italian restaurant where we discussed Alfas and upcoming local events.
We decided to skip dessert and head back to the showroom where I was able to get up close and personal with the cars. My first stop was the Stelvio. They had 3 trim levels in the showroom; base, TI and Sport TI. The base model is a very well equipped car and I won’t get into listing all the standard equipment. I then moved on to the TI with it’s larger diameter wheels and paddle shifter. Very very nice. Lastly, I slipped into the Sport TI. The sports seats were very reminiscent of the 4C but much easier to get into.
As much as the Stelvio got my heart pumping, I was saving myself for the very naughty Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde. It had been staring at me, taunting me as I was moving from one Stelvio to another.
I politely asked Germain if I could sit in the driver’s seat. My knees got weak when I heard him say “but of course!” I opened the door and got behind the wheel. Wow, I just could not believe I was behind the wheel of a 4 door sedan! Alfa Romeo’s tagline is “la meccanica delle emozioni” and the “emozioni” I was feeling at that very moment was lust. And I know the feeling was mutual!
Germain then says “let’s start her up!”. I knew I was going to have a gentleman’s trouser malfunction if I stayed behind the wheel with the engine running. And who knows waht else could have happened. I decided instead to make a short video clip from the rear of the car to capture the sound difference as the car is switched from standard to race mode.Again, really happy I got out of the car.
For the moment, Des Sources Alfa Romeo is the closest Alfa dealership to Ottawa and they are more than happy to service customers from the Ottawa area.
Germain also mentioned that they are currently liquidating the 2017 Giulias to make room for the 2018 models. Current deal on a lease is $299 bi-weekly.You can contact Germain at 514-421-ALFA (2532) or firstname.lastname@example.org. Tell him we sent you. Free one year membership to the Alfa Romeo Club of Ottawa with every purchase or lease.
Thanks again to Germain(Jimmy)Cornet for the pleasant afternoon and looking forward to seeing more new Alfas in the Ottawa area in the near future.
